The
South
Suburban Mayors and Managers Association (SSMMA) will apply for funding under
the Illinois’ Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) IKE-Disaster
Recovery Program to address a variety of local community needs. The goal of the SSMMA application is to
affect positive change that will support the short and long-term stabilization
and revitalization of the southern suburbs of Chicago. The Village of Lansing is proposing to:
Purchase
and rehab of 30 homes - Village Wide - $3,600,000
The
re are
over 300 homes vacant or in various stages of foreclosure in the Village of Lansing. The Village plans to work with its
development partner, Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs to purchase
and
rehabilitate approximately 10% of the 300 homes in crisis for sale to low income
families. Habitat for Humanity
works with Partner Families that are at 50% or less of area median income.
The targeted homes will likely be in some
stage of the foreclosure process and contributing to the disinvestment of the
Village’s neighborhoods. They
could be located in any area of the Village.
Concrete
levy inspection and repair to support housing - At Wentworth and Little Calumet River West - $150,000
The
Village
proposes to contract appropriate consulting engineering firm to inspect the
concrete
levy stretching for approximately 4 blocks (2000 FEET) for faults and cracks
and then hire a contractor to make repairs. The levy was constructed 21 years
ago
and was last inspected prior to the 2008 area floods. The recent change in
climate and the volume of recent rain have lessened the effectiveness of the
levy. It was after the 2008 flood
occurrences that the Village began to have reports of leaks in the levies.
This levy has a direct impact on the
health of safety of the Village’s residential community. The Village has not had the funds
to
make necessary repairs
