Something Different for Lansing

G.R.E.A.T. Program

The Lansing Police Department has been part of the G.R.E.A.T. program since 1994. The goal of the G.R.E.A.T. program is to instruct all middle school age children of the dangers of being part of the gang lifestyle. Gang Resistance Education and Training or G.R.E.A.T. is a 13 week program that also teaches children about cultural diversity, decision making skills and positive influences in their lives.

The G.R.E.A.T. program enables the Police department to reach the children at a very impressionable age and point them into a positive direction. The Lansing Police Department has two full-time officers and one Reserve Officer trained as G.R.E.A.T. Officers.
