Lansing Fire department radio equipment has been upgraded to multi-channel, programmable radios. Every fire station, fire apparatus, ambulance, fire officer, and command vehicle is equipped with state-of-the-art radios to keep them accessible in any emergency.
All fire and EMS personnel carry radio pagers for notification of emergencies, no matter where they are in the community.
A computer network has been developed to link all three fire stations for faster and more efficient data transfer.
Our newest engine is equipped with a headset system for communication among the responding crew, as well as between the officer in charge of the apparatus and our dispatch center. It has proven to be such an improvement that we are currently studying the feasibility of retrofitting our other engines as well.
Additional communication equipment is planned for the communications center to improve our ability to communicate with other agencies in the event of a disaster of any type.
