Licenses are required for all dogs and cats each year.
The annual fee is $5.00 if purchased before July 1st. If purchased July 1 - July 31, it is deemed late and a late penalty of two times (2x) the original fee will be charged. If purchased August 1st or later, the penalty becomes three times (3x) the original fee.

After the initial registration of the pet, the annual registration is included on the Lansing Vehicle Registration form that is mailed to each household annually in May.
Sec. 10-14. License tags.
Upon payment and acceptance of the license fee, the licensing authority shall issue a durable license tag, stamped with the year of issuance and an identification number for the animal for which the license has been obtained. Any license issued for the keeping of a dog shall take effect on the date of issuance and shall be valid for the period from July 1 of each year to June 30 of the following year. Every dog for which the owner is required to obtain a license must wear a valid license tag at all times when the animal is off the premises of its owner.
No person may use a license for any animal other than the animal for which the license was issued. It shall also be unlawful for any person to remove from the neck of any dog the license tag issued pursuant to this section or alter the tag in any manner.
